What actually happens when you retain a divorce lawyer in Mississauga — the first consultation, disclosure, negotiation, and how contested and uncontested paths differ.

The first consultation
Expect questions before answers: the timeline of the relationship, children and their routines, income on both sides, property and debts, and what you want life to look like in a year. From that, a good divorce lawyer maps your realistic options — what a court would likely order, what a fair settlement looks like, and what each path costs.
At Ayoun Law the first 15 minutes are free, so this mapping costs you nothing but the preparation.
Disclosure, negotiation, resolution
Ontario family procedure is built on financial disclosure — both sides exchange income, property and debt documentation early. Most files then resolve by negotiation into a separation agreement, with the divorce itself proceeding as uncontested paperwork. Where issues cannot settle, the court process provides case conferences and motions, with trial as the last resort a small minority ever reach.
