Civil litigation
We always have the time and patience to understand
Contract, property and estate disputes handled with meticulous preparation — in negotiation, at the Landlord and Tenant Board, in Small Claims Court and in the Superior Court of Justice.
Breach of contract
If you are in a complicated situation — contractual disputes, unpaid invoices, failed transactions or fraudulent dealings — we can assist in resolving your claim using the remedies the law provides: damages, specific performance, rescission and injunctions where the facts support them.
Landlord and tenant disputes
With housing costs where they are, more people rent — and more disputes end up at the Landlord and Tenant Board. We advise both landlords and tenants on rights and procedures under the Residential Tenancies Act: arrears and eviction applications, maintenance issues, bad-faith evictions and compensation claims. Our licensed paralegal appears regularly at the LTB — see the dedicated Landlord Tenant Board practice page for fees and how those files run.
Property and co-ownership disputes
Title disputes, boundary and easement issues, failed agreements of purchase and sale, deposit disputes and co-ownership breakdowns — including applications for partition and sale where co-owners cannot agree.
Estate disputes
Will challenges, disputes with estate trustees, dependant support claims under the Succession Law Reform Act, and passing-of-accounts disputes.
Small Claims Court
For lower-value disputes, Small Claims Court is faster and far less expensive. Our licensed paralegal can represent you there — keeping your costs proportionate to the claim.

Litigation questions
How long do I have to sue in Ontario?+
The basic limitation period under Ontario's Limitations Act, 2002 is two years from the day you discovered the claim — with important exceptions in both directions. If you think you have a claim, get advice early: waiting can end the claim entirely.
Which court hears my dispute?+
It depends on the amount and the subject. Lower-value claims go to Small Claims Court, larger claims to the Superior Court of Justice, and residential tenancy disputes usually belong at the Landlord and Tenant Board rather than court. Choosing the wrong forum wastes months — it is one of the first things we sort out at the consultation.
Will my case actually go to trial?+
Most civil disputes settle. Ontario procedure builds in mandatory steps — exchange of documents, examinations, and in Toronto-region actions mediation — that push parties toward resolution. We prepare every file as if it will be tried, which is exactly what produces strong settlements.
What will litigation cost me?+
At a paid consultation ($199 per half-hour, CAD), we give you an honest assessment of what the claim is worth against what it will cost — including the risk of paying part of the other side's costs if you lose. Sometimes the right advice is not to litigate; we will tell you that plainly.
