## How much does it cost to talk to a lawyer at Ayoun Law?

Your first 15 minutes are free. After that, consultation time is $199 per
half-hour (CAD), confirmed before any billed time starts. For ongoing matters
fees are quoted up front; many real estate and notary services are flat-fee.

## When should I contact a real estate lawyer during a purchase?

Ideally before you sign the Agreement of Purchase and Sale, and at the latest
as soon as it is signed, so conditions, title, closing dates and adjustments
can be checked while there is still time to fix problems.

## What are decision-making responsibility and parenting time in Ontario?

Since March 2021, Ontario and federal family law use these terms for what many
people still search as custody and access. Decision-making responsibility is
the authority to make significant decisions about a child's education, health,
religion and activities; parenting time is the schedule of time the child
spends with each parent. Both are decided based on the best interests of the
child.

## How is child support calculated in Ontario?

Child support follows the Child Support Guidelines: the table amount is based
on the paying parent's gross annual income and the number of children, with
possible additions for special or extraordinary expenses such as child care,
medical needs and some activities.

## What is a power of attorney, and why might I need one?

A document naming someone to act for you. Ontario has two main kinds under the
Substitute Decisions Act, 1992: a continuing power of attorney for property and
a power of attorney for personal care. Without them, your family may need a
court appointment to manage your affairs if you become incapable.

## What is the Land Transfer Tax in Ontario?

Ontario charges Land Transfer Tax on most property purchases, calculated on the
purchase price on a sliding scale. Buying inside the City of Toronto adds a
municipal land transfer tax. Eligible first-time buyers can receive a
provincial refund of up to $4,000. Your lawyer calculates and remits the tax on
closing.

## Do I really need a will?

If you die without a will in Ontario, the Succession Law Reform Act decides who
inherits. A will lets you choose your estate trustee, your beneficiaries and a
guardian for minor children.

## Can you notarize documents the same day?

Yes. Notary and commissioning services are walk-in at the Mississauga office,
Monday to Friday, 9:30 AM – 7:00 PM.

## Do you take immigration clients outside the GTA?

Yes. Immigration is federal law, so the firm represents applicants across
Canada and abroad in IRCC applications, with meetings by Google Meet.

## What should I bring to my first meeting?

A short timeline, every document connected to the matter, photo ID and your
questions. If there is a deadline (a closing date, a limitation period, a
hearing), say so first.
